TMTC bags the Golden
Peacock National Training Award for
2007

Genesis and Purpose of the
Golden Peacock Award
Golden Peacock Awards have been instituted
by IOD (Institute of Directors) way
in 1992 to create a competitiveness
among enterprises. Now they are considered
as holy grail of corporate excellence.
Its self assessment report helps industries
to improve their performance. The Awards
are under various categories such as
Training, CSR, Environment Management,
Occupational Health & Safety, Corporate
Governance, Innovation, Quality, etc.
The Golden Peacock National Training
Award (GPNTA)
The annual GPNTA scheme was initiated
by IOD in 1998 to encourage total quality
in Training and GPNTA are awarded to
organizations that are adjudged to have
made significant contributions in field
of quality of training. The Award initiates
a self assessment process and leads
the way to build an organization's brand
equity on training quality. The Award
recognizes training that makes real
difference and offers tangible benefits
to the business/ organization and/or
to the community.
These are open to corporations and
institutes under three categories:
• Employer : Who are training
the employees on their own 'in-house'
or on the job training courses or utilizing
external resources to train them.
• Training Provider : Organizations
offering training to others, including
educational institutions.
• Joint Entry : Employer and training
providers who work together on joint
training initiatives.
Tata Management Training Centre was
considered under Joint Entry category.
A total of 187 applications for all
three categories were received this
year.
Selection Process
The process consists of evaluation in
two tiers. The first assessment is done
by an industry specialist, who checks
whether the application meets the criteria
and shortlists with ranking. In the
final round a panel of judges drawn
from government, public and private
sectors, mostly consisting of eminent
personalities from education, training,
law, industry and business. The current
winners are selected by a jury under
the Chairmanship of Justice P N Bhagwati,
Former Chief Justice of India and Chairman,
Golden Peacock Awards.
